STATEMENT
My paintings explore the intersection between abstraction and the landscape, inspired by organic forms, the kaleidoscope of colors in nature, and the wonder I feel at the beauty and vastness of the natural world. I work intuitively with a variety of materials, arranging and mark-making, sometimes including imagery or colors from a real or remembered landscape. I often use expressive line as a key element, suggesting natural forms, roads or connections. My vantage point is usually a zoomed-out map view, like looking down from an airplane window. Some paintings are a celebration of joy and adventure while others are quieter, more serene. I know a painting is complete when it comes together as a whole and also invites a closer look at the details contained within the layers. In all of the work my aim is to uplift and provide a fresh perspective, as well as share the joy, wonder and appreciation I feel for the natural world.
